Tiruvellukai – Abode of Lord Narasimha


his is one of the foremost kshetras dedicated to Lord Narasimha. One of the 108 Divya Desams in Vaishnavite tradition, this shrine is situated in Kancheepuram, near Asthabuyaharam temple.

Narasimha took the divine incarnation in King Hiranyakasipu’s palace. In order to punish the king he took the from of Narasimha, the lion-headed God. Unable to put up with the atrocities of the king, Narasimha left his abode in Hastisylam cave to enter into a pillar in the King’s palace. To satisfy the child devotee Prahalada, who is also Hiranyakasipu’s son, Narasimha appeared from the pillar.
